Support a scholarship student

As a result of the genocide that occurred in Cambodia in the 1970s, education is still a huge issue. According to a majority of studies done in Cambodia, LGBTIQ+ individuals face stigma, discrimination and exclusion in a variety of settings, including the education system. Drop-out rates amongst LGBTIQ+ individuals are higher than the overall school-going population due to both bullying and economic hardship caused by family rejection. Schools also tend to be uncomfortable places in general for LGBTIQ+ individuals as traditionally understood gender roles are enforced in the form of haircuts, uniforms (for both students and teachers), social and institutional pressure, etc.

We provide educational scholarships to Khmer LGBTIQ+ individuals who are wanting to further their education and unable to fund it on their own. We have sponsored basic English lessons and full university courses. Our first two scholarship recipients studied Professional Health Counselling in Phnom Penh. Not only will these graduates be able to go on and provide counselling services to their own community, their efforts in general and newfound knowledge and skills will lend to uplifting the community as a whole as valuable and contributing members of society.
